Birth of the Sand Viper: Origins of Jafar (Dark Immortal Flames Series Book 0) available for purchase on Amazon, or alternatively with the author’s newsletter
This was an amazing story, and the author did an amazing job telling it. For some strange reason this particular book flew under my radar for a while, while I should have read it months ago, the moment it came out. Lesson learned, this author writes stories too good to miss, so for the next one I am dropping everything and reading it immediately.
Although I have been planning to read this author for a while, somehow it only happened now, so this is my first time really reading her work. What I can say about the author’s work is only the best. She has a way with words, and her unique writing style is raw and harsh, as the story she is presenting. It all fits perfectly to portray the harsh times, cruel actions, and sacrifice of individuals, that have changed fate of a whole nation.
The world the author has created here is beautiful and peaceful, until one person’s actions, supported by just two more individuals, convert it into something ugly, unfriendly and unpleasant. This is a great cautionary tale about consequences of greed. The author does it gradually, weaving the tale of Jinnis and humans and magic, using beautifully vivid descriptions, raw emotions, and realistic characters. Additionally, she adds her spin on the ancient legends and lore, which I enjoyed immensely.
The characters are beautifully developed, strong, determined, even the those whose actions are incredibly cruel. None of the characters yield. This was incredibly interesting and enjoyable to read. And there are consequences for everyone. Some parts of the story were incredibly powerful and heartbreaking. It was just wow!
I have to put a warning, this is not for the faint of heart, there is a scene or two there are superhot and there is violence. If you are not sensitive to the aforementioned, this is a must read. More stories have been announced and I can’t wait for the next story!
Behind the Veil: A Daemon’s Seduction (Dark Immortal Flames Series Short Story) available for purchase on Amazon
For me, this is the second book by this author, and also the second book in her Dark Immortal series, and unlike the previous one which had a historical fantasy feel, this story has a more of an urban feel to it and I love the versatility the author is expressing in her writing style. I also love the cultural diversity the author is expressing here. But most importantly, the author’s imagination and the ability to transform the familiar story into something completely original is impressive.
The author’s approach to beauty and the beast is somewhat different here because Petra, the main character is not the prisoner of the beast, but her family and the societal norms and expectations. Not only that she saves Zahak from his destiny and lifelong misery and unhappiness, she also finds her own salvation in him. Their match is as perfect as it is unlikely and their story is beautiful. And hot and steamy.
I loved the previous story, I loved this one, and I can’t wait to see what the author comes up with next. I do have some ideas because here and there the author hints at some possibilities and introduces and array of interesting characters which I hope get their stories in future.
