Betrayals & Broken Promises (Masquerade of Myths Book 1) available for purchase on Amazon
This was an interesting story, incredibly well written, set in a very intriguing and unusual world and with well developed characters. By the end of the book, I still couldn’t find it in myself to like the main character, but I could not stop reading to see what happens, and I’ve immediately pre-ordered the next two books.
Dahlia is the main character, a chameleon shifter, hidden not only from the humans, but other supernatural creatures, as well. She is a smart person who is prone to making incredibly stupid decisions. It is obvious that her decision making is greatly affected by her desperate desire to break free from her family and societal norms imposed on her, as well as the arranged marriage she is trying to escape, complemented by her unrealistic idea that her mother will ever treat her well or appreciate her as a person.
So, this unfortunate set of circumstances, which basically equates Dahlia with an object, or a commodity to be used, results in all kinds of bad decisions on Dahlia’s part and some shocking actions on the part of her mother. Btw, worst mother ever! Scary to the max, psycho to the max, and all of that wrapped up in a narcissist package, pure delight to be around.
But what intrigues me most is the influence Dahlia’s mother has and how she dictates all the actions and events in a society where women have no say whatsoever. And I can’t wait to find out. Also, I am hoping that staying away from home will do some good for Dahlia, in a sense of making better decisions, and growing as a person, outside of the shackles.
Because it seems that the author only scratched the surface of the story and there seems to be so much more. There is Dahlia’s previous job, there are some severely illegal activities, there is so much intrigue, and then all the character relationships that just started unraveling or developing. In any case, I am incredibly curious to find out what happens next, and what is Dahlia going to do about it.

Demons, mythology and a flawed main character … Yes, please! Added this book series to my to-be-read pile immediately. What do you think?
